Mackay clean-up 'to take months'
The clean-up will continue for weeks if not months in Mackay as the Queensland floods damage bill is tipped to reach tens of millions of dollars.
Premier Anna Bligh has announced extra financial help for the central Queensland city, declared a disaster zone after 624mm of rain fell in 10 hours on Friday.
Ms Bligh, other politicians and bureaucrats yesterday toured the region hit by its worst monsoonal downpour in 90 years.
"What I saw in Mackay was nothing short of devastation,'' Ms Bligh told AAP.
Ms Bligh has urged affected residents to contact the Department of Communities to determine what assistance they may be entitled to.
