Former Australian Idol contestant Kate Cook, has been found dead in bushland near her home in Lowood, Queensland.

Kate, 36, was reported missing on Sunday around 7:20pm by friends, sadly her body was located 500 metres into bushland after a police search was triggered yesterday.

At this stage police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Kate won the hearts of many after making her appearance on Australian Idol 10 years ago, she made it into the top six before being eliminated from the show.

Kate worked as a meat cutter at an abattoir when she decided to enter the singing competition.  For her audition, she sang an original piece of music “Make You Say”, a song she had written for her mother who took her own life just two days before Cook’s 17th birthday.

Tributes have been flowing in for the Kate, with messages from fellow country artists including Casey Barnes who paid respects to his friend via Twitter:
