Tweed Man Extradited To NSW Over Baby Girl Death

UPDATE: A 47-year-old homeless man has been extradited from the Gold Coast to Tweed Heads over the death of a baby girl.

The man was transferred on Wednesday, more than two days after the nine-month old's remains were found on Surfers Paradise beach.

EARLIER: New South Wales Police have taken over the investigation into the death of a baby girl whose body was found on a Gold Coast beach.

They will allege the nine-month-old died across the border in NSW, with police divers searching Jack Evans Boat Harbour at Tweed Heads on Tuesday.

Detectives will now seek to extradite a 47-year-old man currently in the custody of Queensland Police.

He was believed to be the infant's father, taken into custody in Broadbeach following the grisly discovery by a passer-by in Surfers Paradise on Monday.

Meanwhile a candlelight vigil has been organised for the baby girl, held at Surfers Paradise Beach from 5pm on Thursday.
