A 20-year-old man has been charged over a car theft in Nerang on Monday that landed a woman in hospital.
The man, who wasn't known to the victim, was charged with robbery with violence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, after the incident at a Nerang shopping mall carpark around 4pm.
The 21-year-old woman spotted her red Ford Falcon being driven towards the exit and tried to jump into the passenger seat to stop the alleged thief.
She was then dragged half-in and half-out of the car before the offender slammed on the breaks, knocking her to the ground.
The driver then sped off, hitting another vehicle and running over the woman's leg.
She was taken to hospital with a serious injury.
Her car was found abandoned in Highland Park a short time after the incident.
The accused is due in court later this month.
