City Council Strike Action Officially Going Ahead Today

Despite Council Attempts To Halt It

City Council Strike Action Officially Going Ahead Today

Cleaners will down mops, receptionists will let phones go unanswered and librarians won't be re-shelving any books today as Gold Coast City Council workers go on strike.

More than a hundred union members are stopping work as they continue to fight for fair pay and conditions.

Council attempted to stop the industrial action from happening so close to the Commonwealth Games, but the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission has ruled it can take place over the next few days.

However employees must return to full duties from Monday, two weeks out from the games.

Workers are rallying at the Southport Broadwater Parklands today, while council has assured the public there will be no disruption to services.
