Clubs Plead Qld Government For No Second Casino

Local clubs are calling on Queensland Government to not allow a second casino to operate on the Glitter Strip.

Clubs Queensland was concerned the move would affect 330 clubs across the South-East, putting around 10,000 full-time and casual workers in the firing line.

The body claimed all surf life saving, sports, RSL and community clubs within a 100km radius would be at risk of losing their members, with casinos making 70 per cent of their income from local punters.

Clubs Queensland argued not-for-profit organisations simply wouldn't be able to compete because they have fewer poker machines, no table games, can't operate 24 hours a day, and don't have the marketing budget of a casino.
