Drunk Driver Killer Step Closer To Extradition From India

Puneet Puneet Deemed 'Mentally Fit'

Drunk Driver Killer Step Closer To Extradition From India

A man who killed a Gold Coast student in a hit and run in Melbourne 10 years ago is a step closer to being sent back to Australia.

Puneet Puneet fled the country on a mate's passport to avoid being sentenced over the crash that killed Dean Hofstee in 2008.

He was a 19-year-old learner driver at the time of the fatal crash, travelling at 150 kilometres per hour with a blood alcohol reading of 0.165.

The Indian national had been fighting his extradition on mental health grounds, however a New Delhi court ruled that he is fit to stand trial for extradition.

He was due to face another hearing on November 28.
