Four men have worked together to save the life of a fellow surfer at Mermaid Beach this morning.
An elderly man fell from his board unconscious around 7:50am, while about 50 metres from shore.
Luckily other surfers were nearby.
They managed to grab the man, put him on a surfboard and tow him back to the beach, where they performed CPR until he started breathing again.
Ambulance officers and surf life savers arrived at the scene a short time later, before taking a man in his 60s to hospital in a critical condition.
Paramedics believe he may have suffered a cardiac episode.
