Fire crews across the Gold Coast are on high alert for a heightened bushfire risk this weekend.
A prolonged dry period and large fuel loads around South-East Queensland have set the region up for a long active bushfire season.
All permits for burning in the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Somerset, and Scenic Rim regions have been cancelled for the weekend, while extra firefighters will be on standby.
Permits have been cancelled from midnight on Friday August 10 until further notice.
Residents are asked to remain vigilant and finalise their bushfire safety plans, with the fire danger rating set to climb to very high on Sunday.
