A former volunteer dog walker who torched a Southport unit block before attacking a female resident with a hurling stick has been sentenced to five years jail.

Danielle Elizabeth Kenedy pleaded guilty to a number of charges including arson and assault occassioning bodily harm.

Southport District Court was told the 29-year-old doused the building with petrol before setting it alight in June 2015.
