The T20 matches being held at Metricon Stadium at the end of the year could be played with some fancy new balls.

News Corp reports Gold Coast company Jetson Industries has been given a $100,000 grant from the Queensland Government to develop state-of-the-art cricket balls that measure speed, bounce and spin.

The so-called smart balls would reportedly incorporate tiny electronic sensors to record movement data, while not affecting the ball’s performance.

It will allow the stats to be sent to coaches immediately, as well as the commentary team to be then shared with fans.

The company has ordered to have the balls finished in time for Christmas.
