Gold Coast Suburb Makes Most Calls To Crime Tip Line

Locals make 400 calls to Crime Stoppers

Gold Coast Suburb Makes Most Calls To Crime Tip Line

It looks like Southport residents are working with police to keep their community safe.

Nearly 400 calls were made to Crime Stoppers from the Gold Coast suburb last year, the highest number of calls made from a single Queensland suburb in 2017.

Those 397 Southport calls resulted in 21 arrests and 59 charges.

All up, Gold Coasters made more than 2,700 calls to the crime reporting network last year.

Crime Stopper CEO Trevor O'Hara has told Channel Nine, he believes locals are more willing to report any information or suspicious activity.

"Crime Stoppers has seen over the years, especially since the motorcycle gang incident on the Gold Coast, that they want to share information in greater numbers than ever before," he said.
