Gold Coast Surf Life Savers Put Up Flags For The Final Time This Season

Volunteers take break over winter months

Gold Coast Surf Life Savers Put Up Flags For The Final Time This Season

Might want to say a big thank you to our men and women in red and yellow if you're down on the sand today.

This is the last day our volunteer Surf Life Savers will be manning Queensland beaches.

They pack up the flags at the end of the Labour Day public holiday, ahead of a five month break over the winter months.

Gold Coast coordinator Nathan Fife says the holiday is well-deserved, with our volunteers helping rescue more than 600 people at local beaches since September last year.

"That's 600 people who have gone back to their families, so it's a great job from our lifesavers".

If you want to brave the ocean this winter, the Gold Coast City Council professional life guard service will still be keeping a close eye on the water.

"They'll stay 8am til 5pm until September when our Life Savers come back on on the weekends," said Mr Fife.
