RAIN: Flash Flooding Warning For Gold Coast And Tweed

UPDATE: Mayor Tom Tate has issued a warning to Gold Coasters to keep an eye on the weather warnings this weekend.

Rainfalls of around 300 millimetres are expected across the city, with the Hinterland tipped to cop up to 200 mills on Friday alone.

"There will be a whole month of rain in just four short days," said Cr Tate.

"No need to panic, we're in good shape."

Beaches are holding up well, but people are asked to check with lifeguards for info on the conditions.

While final construction work for the Commonwealth Games is not expected to be impacted by the rain, with crews well ahead of schedule.

Head to Gold Coast City Council's Dashboard website for any information about weather warnings and road closures.

EARLIER: The Gold Coast could be in for flash floods today, with BOM predicting heavy rain of up to 200 millimeters in some areas.

Isolated thunderstorms could also be added to the murky mix for the Gold Coast and Tweed.

Police are reminding us - if it's flooded, forget it - don't drive across flooded roads.
