Three shots rang out at a local shopping centre at around 4:50pm on Tuesday as officers tried to stop a stolen ute, which had allegedly rammed two police vehicles as it tried to make a get away.
Police shot out the tyres of the vehicle and eventually took two people into custody.
One of them was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.
An internal investigation is now underway into the use of police firearms.
