Las Vegas shooter's girlfriend heartbroken for victims

The girlfriend of the Las Vegas shooter has spoken for the first time in the wake of Monday's massacre.

62-year-old Marilou Danley, who used to live on the Gold Coast, has been questioned by the FBI after arriving back in the United States from the Philippines.

She said her partner Stephen Paddock sent her to see her family a couple of weeks before the incident, telling her he had found cheap tickets, and that he later transferred $US100,000 to her bank account, telling her it was to buy a house for her family.

"I was grateful but honestly I was worried that first, the unexpected trip home, and then the money was his way of breaking up with me," she said in a statement, read by her lawyer Matthew Lombard

Ms Danley denied having any knowledge of the shooting which claimed 58 innocent lives, saying she only knew her boyfriend as a kind, caring and quiet man.

"He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of, that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible was going to happen," she said in the statement.

"It never occurred to me in any way that he was planning violence against anyone.

"My prayers go out to the victims and their families and all those who have been hurt.

"I am a mother and a grandmother and my heart breaks for all who have lost loved ones".
