A new swim school is being launched on the Gold Coast tomorrow, just in time for Learn2Swim Week.
The new Laurie Lawrence Swim School at Burleigh opens to the public on Tuesday.
It will be Kids Alive founder Laurie Laurence's third pool in Queensland, after he bought the facility on Flagstone Dr for $1.15 million last month.
Parents can get free lessons for children under five this week at the pool, as well as 400 other swim schools across the country, as part of Learn2Swim week, which aims to teach as many kids as possible how to stay afloat.
Mr Lawrence said it was important kids are given the life saving skills they need.
"Our target is zero pre-school drownings and I believe that this project that has been put together by Kids Alive and Poolwerx will help save kids' lives," he said.
Research from Poolwerx has revealed a staggering 47% of parents currently rate their kids' water safety skills as poor or average, while one in three doesn't believe their child would be able to get out of a pool if they fell in.
Mr Lawrence is encouraging Mums, Dads and carers to come along to the free sessions this Learn2Swim Week.
"The results when you come every day for a week are outstanding; you [turn] little, frightened kids into floaters and kickers," he said.
"Sixty percent of parents who have tried this Learn2Swim Week in the past, booked their kids in for future swimming lessons".
