If you love watching the wood chopping at the Gold Coast Show, how about a whole weekend of lumberjack action?
A cloud of sawdust is about to hit the Coast, when the Glitter Strip hosts the national wood chopping championships for the first time.
More than 30 athletes will go up against each other, vying for the 2018 Stihl Timbersports Championships title in a series of intense logging challenges.
Event director Lee Gooch says it would be fun to watch, but the stakes are high for those holding the axes.
"There will not a flannelette shirt in sight; these guys are real athletes and they train for this all year round," he said.
"The prize pool over the weekend is over $100,000 so it's going to be hotly contested".
"There are six disciples; three with axes and three with swords, so there's going to be axes flying and chainsaws screaming and a whole lot of saw dust everywhere".
The free, family event is on at the Broadwater Parklands on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16.
