Man Arrested After Police Chase Across The Tweed Coast

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man at gunpoint following a car chase across the Tweed Coast.

Queensland police alerted their colleagues in New South Wales on Thursday morning, that a Commodore that had been stolen during an earlier armed home invasion in Queensland, had cross the border, claiming the driver was allegedly armed with a firearm.

Tweed police located the vehicle on Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum around midday and gave chase, but were forced to abandon the pursuit after the stolen vehicle allegedly reached speeds of up to 200km/h.

The car eventually lost control and crashed on a dirt road around 12:25pm following a second pursuit, where the driver was arrested at gunpoint, allegedly after a violent struggle.

A 28-year-old man was later been charged with a string of offences including dangerous driving, resisting arrest and being in possession of stolen goods.

He was due in the Tweed Heads Local court on Friday.
