Mayor hands back Games tickets

Rate-payer funded tix refunded

Mayor hands back Games tickets

The Gold Coast City Council is handing back almost half of the tickets it bought for the Commonwealth Games.

The CEO originally purchased 1800 event tickets on the rate-payer's dime but Mayor Tom Tate has now stripped Councillors of their 54 tickets each, and has given up the 108 purchased for him.

Those 864 tickets will be put back into the pool for a full refund but Council will hang on to the other thousand for now.

Mayor Tom Tate said he will have a look at what business and advocacy purposes those tickets will be used for later this week, before making a call on how many to keep.

He took to Facebook to explain.

"After my initial review I have issued an initial directive to CEO last week to return the 864 Commonwealth Games tickets purchased for allocation to Councillors for a full refund from the Goldoc organisation," he posted.

"As to the remaining 1020 tickets purchased I will be making recommendations to Councillors on this later next week when I have had further opportunity to review the advocacy opportunities proposed by officers".
