Mother charged following death of baby found on Gold Coast beach

The mother of a nine-month-old baby girl, found dead on a Gold Coast beach last month, has now been charged.

The 23-year-old was arrested on Thursday afternoon, facing court at Southport before being extradited across the border to New South Wales.

She was escorted to Tweed Heads Police Station, where she was charged overnight, with fail to provide for a child, causing danger of death.

She was set to face Byron Bay Local Court on Friday.

The woman was question in the wake of the grim discovery at Surfers Paradise on November 19, but was initially released from custody and taken to hospital.

The baby's 47-year-old father has been charged with her murder.
