A crash in the royal motorcade just 30 minutes before the Opening Ceremony didn't stop Prince Charles and Camilla getting to the show on time.

Two police officers were injured when their motorbikes collided at speed on the Gold Coast Highway at Southport, while escorting the royal couple to Carrara Stadium around 7:30 on Wednesday night.

The motorcade wasn't held up though; it continued on, while a 27-year-old male officer was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second officer, 42, was transported as well, just as a precaution.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
