Owner Bashed By Alleged Car Thieves At Surfers Paradise

A man is in hospital with serious head injuries and a group of people are on the run, following a series of car break ins and thefts across the Gold Coast overnight.

Police were initially called to a unit block Waterford Court, Bundall around 11pm, with reports five people had smashed an apartment window, damaged five vehicles in the car park and also broken into a number of other cars in the surrounding streets.

The group was spotted fleeing the scene in two vehicles stolen from a Glyn Street home earlier in the night, both of which were located a few hours later.

There were a number of other reports of more cars being damaged and broken into at Tugun and Tweed Heads, before police were called to Fiesta Avenue, Surfers Paradise around 2:45am.

They were told a group of people was trying to enter break into a car there.

The owner, a man in his 30s, heard the break-in and confronted the group, but they attacked him, causing wounds to his neck and head.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition, while the offenders took off in a stolen 2006 Black Holden Commodore with the Queensland registration 312VNL.
