Speed Factor In Fatal Smash

PLEASE SLOW DOWN: Urgent Plea For Gold Coast Drivers

Police are pleading with drivers to slow down.

It comes after initial investigations suggest speed may have been a factor in the fatal crash at Oxenford on Sunday that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.

South East Queensland assistant commissioner Brian Codd claims his officers are doing all they can to fight speeding and distraction, but the message doesn't seem to be sinking in.

News Corp has revealed drivers were hit with more than 115,000 speeding tickets on the Gold Coast last year, totally more than $23 million in fines.

Nearly a thousand of those were caught going more than 31km/h over the limit.
