The Gold Coast is in for between 50 and 80mm on Friday, while Julian de Morton from the Bureau of Meteorology said some parts could see even more.
"We could see some isolated areas, especially in and around the hinterland, where we could see falls higher than that," he said.
There was an 80% chance of rain for Saturday as well, but the forecaster said that should be clearing by breakfast time.
"So by the time most people wake up on Saturday it should be starting to clear or already have cleared by then, so by and large Saturday will be a pretty fine day," said Mr de Morton.
