Scared Brisbanites Blamed For GC Visitor Numbers Drop

Looks like Brisbane residents put off from making the trip down the M1 ahead of the Commonwealth Games have put a dent in the Gold Coast's visitor numbers for the year.

Despite drawing around 100,000 extra domestic tourists during and following the event, April to June 30, there was actually a 1.2 per cent dip in the number of Aussie visitors over the full financial year, down to 3.5 million.

The drop was put down to our neighbours to the north being scared off by Commonwealth Games preparation works.

However the good news is, despite the dip in numbers, visitors spent more money while they were here, injecting $3.1 billion into the city.
