There was plenty of drama at Gold Coast beaches yesterday.
Swimmers were evacuated from the water at North Burleigh at around 9.30am on Sunday when a shark was sighted during a Surf Life Saving Branch Championship event.
The beach was eventually reopened around an hour later when it swam out of sight.
Meanwhile, just a few hours earlier at Miami a surfer had been pulled to shore after being found unconscious and face down in the water.
The 69-year-old was rescued by an off-duty lifesaver at around 5.45am and revived by CPR before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.
