The Gold Coast Titans have announced the shock retirement of Brenton Lawrence from rugby league today.
The former Manly front-rower confirmed on Wednesday he'll be hanging up the boots effective immediately, after making his debut with the Titans in 2011.
The 32-year-old had only joined the club's pre-season training a few weeks ago after signing a two-year contract.
But Lawrence admitted his mind and body can no longer take on the rigours of an NRL season, and believed retiring was the best decision for himself and the club.
He's been applauded by new head coach Garth Brennan for his 'club first' attitude.
