Struggling Gold Coast Businesses Promised Best Is Yet To Come

Games prompt $30B worth of projects

Struggling Gold Coast Businesses Promised Best Is Yet To Come

Many Gold Coast businesses have been left disappointed and even out-of-pocket after the Commonwealth Games didn't deliver the promised crowds, but one expert believes the region has already seen the benefits of the major sporting event over the past few years, with more to come.

CEO of Ray White Surfers Paradise Group Andrew Bell says billions of dollars have already been poured into developments on the Gold Coast, to upgrade and build new facilities, and there is another 30 billion dollars worth of projects in the pipeline.

They include tower three of the Star's development in Broadbeach, Orion Towers in Surfers and Queen Street Village in Southport.

Mr Bell said for those business impacted during the two-week Games period, it might be a case of short term pain for long term gain.

"We sometimes forget that we've actually had not a bad period of time over the past couple of years because of all the investment in the Games, and of course post-Games as tourism picks up and as more people migrate here, they are going to get the benefits then," he said.
