Tinnie tragedy on the Broadwater

33-year-old killed in boat crash

Tinnie tragedy on the Broadwater

Police are preparing a report for the coroner after a fatal boating incident in the Broadwater.

33-year-old Jess Murray died on Saturday evening while on her way to the Couran Cove Resort with boyfriend Bryce Semple, when the 3.5m tinnie they were in collided with a vessel twice its size.

The smaller boat is believed to have veered into the path of the larger cruiser.

Jess was knocked out of the boat and 41-year-old Bryce, who was also injured held her afloat in the water for a number of minutes before the people in the other boat took them to shore.

"They assisted them onto their boat and have commenced first aid treatment on both those patients whilst they then took them into the jetty area at Couran Cove," said Gavin Fuller from the Queensland Ambulance Service.

The freelance make-up artist was given CPR by bystanders and paramedics, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Fuller said Bryce was also injured in the crash sustaining "a large laceration to his head, some chest injuries and an injury to his thumb".

"He was conscious and transported by VMR and then QAS to the Gold Coast University hospital," he said.
