Tweed Primary Schools Banning Mobile Phones In 2019

Crackdown On Cyber Bullying, Distraction

Tweed Primary Schools Banning Mobile Phones In 2019

A mobile phone ban will be enforced at primary schools across New South Wales from next year.

Smartphones and other mobiles will be banned during school hours at public primary schools, including across the border in Tweed Heads.

High schools will be given the choice of opting-in to the ban, or introducing other restrictions to suit their needs.

NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes said they want to take action against the rise of online bullying and distraction causes by devices.

"Distractions and bullying have always been issues for schools to deal with," said Minister Stokes.

"We know that online bullying is on the rise and that mobile phones are a big distraction in the classroom for our students as well."

It comes following an expert review into the issue led by child psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.
