Two injured, one dead in hinterland crashes

A 39-year-old man has died in a motorbike crash in the Gold Coast hinterland overnight.

Passers-by called for help after spotting the man's bike in a ditch on Tamborine-Oxenford Road in Wongawallan around 11:50 on Sunday night.

An off-duty nurse and two border force officers who came across the incident tried to save the rider but he died at the scene.

Police said they believed he was travelling east when his bike left the road and crashed into a ditch.

The Forensic Crash Unit's investigating.

Meantime, two people were hurt in a head-on crash on Waterford-Tamborine Road on Monday morning.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said one patient was in a serious, but stable condition, while the other was also stable, after the collision shortly after 6 o'clock.

Part of the road near Pine Forest Way was shut for a few hours while crews cleaned up after the smash.
