Whooping Cough Outbreak Sparks Pharmacy Guild Calls

Whooping Cough Outbreak Sparks Pharmacy Guild Calls

Pharmacists believe a recent whooping cough outbreak at a Gold Coast school could have been prevented if they were allowed to vaccinate to the full extent of their training.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia called on the Queensland Government to allow pharmacists to give people over the age of 10 their jabs, claiming the convenience and accessibility of getting a shot at your local chemist could better protect the community against infectious diseases.

The guild argued that since they have been allowed to give flu shots there has been improved immunisation across the state.

It follows an outbreak at Palm Beach State School that affected more than a dozen students.
