EARLIER: A 26-year-old woman is fighting for life after crashing into a truck on the M1.

Her hatchback ran up the back of the prime mover in the southbound lanes at Helensvale around 8:20pm on Monday.

The car then side-swiped another vehicle before smashing into the guardrail cables.

The driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition and the Forensic Crash Unit was called in to investigate.

The crash came less than 36 hours after a man died on the same stretch of road, when his broken-down ute was hit by another car, in the northbound lanes.
