The average pavlova recipe uses between 6 and 8 eggs. A big bowl of pancake batter will use 2 or 3. An Aussie hamburger might have 1 egg on top of the beetroot. So what would you make if you suddenly had 15,000 eggs in your kitchen?
That’s the dilemma chefs for Norway’s Olympic team had to deal with after a simple translation error in their order.
Norwegian officials put in an order for 1,500 eggs from a local supermarket, to help feed their athletes at the Winter Olympics, but that’s where it all went wrong. The team chefs were using Google Translate to put together the shopping list, but something just didn’t compute.
The error was only uncovered when a delivery truck arrived, and the stacks of eggs just kept piling up in the kitchen.
Luckily for the team, instead of needing to cook omelette for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the supermarket was forgiving, and took back 13,500 eggs.
