A South African spearfishing group has shared footage of the heart-stopping moment a great white casually brushes over an unsuspecting diver.
The video shows the mammoth fish passing by the stunned figure, showing little interest in his underwater company.
The stunning footage has clocked up more than 1.2 million views since it was posted nine hours ago.
"Of the 100-plus annual shark attacks worldwide, fully one-third to one-half are attributable to great whites," says National Geographic." However, most of these are not fatal, and new research finds that great whites, who are naturally curious, are "sample biting" then releasing their victims rather than preying on humans."
In comparison, humans kill an estimated 100 million sharks a year according to the latest report published in the journal Marine Policy.
