A mother of two has died following complications from influenza after a difficult flu season in Australia.
The woman from Canberra died over the weekend from acute respiratory distress syndrome after catching the flu.
Jennifer Thew was a receptionist at a medical centre, and is the first person from Canberra to die from the flu.
ACT Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris advised that people continue to be vaccinated against the flu, even though the flu season is almost over for the year.
“The message that we had at the beginning of the flu season, I think now is what people are really listening to and I encourage them to think about that, even now in particularly in the lead up to next year’s flu season, how important it is to get a flu vaccine,” she said.
It is understood that Ms Thew was vaccinated.
