Everybody Still Loves Bon

Gone 38 Years Ago Today

Everybody Still Loves Bon

Where does the time go? Bon Scott died 38 years ago today.

Ronald Belford Scott was born on 9 July 1946 at Fyfe Jamieson Maternity Hospital in Forfar, the son of Charles Belford "Chick" Scott (d. 1999) and Isabelle Cunningham "Isa" Mitchell (1917–2011). He grew up in Kirriemuir and was the second child of his parents; the first-born was a boy, Sandy, who died shortly after birth.[1] A third child, Derek, was born in 1949.[1] The Scott family moved from Scotland to Australia in 1952. They initially lived in the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, and Scott attended nearby Sunshine Primary School.[1] A fourth child, Graeme, was born in 1953. In addition, Scott had a younger sister named Valerie.[1]

In 1956, the family moved to Fremantle.

To say that AC/DC influenced generations of musos would be an understatement and there have been many tributes over the years.

Here's one you may not know about;

When Bruce and the E St Band played in Perth on the 2014 tour, guitarist Tom Morello made a late night visit to Bon's marker at Fremantle Cemetery to pay his respects, the next day he suggested to Bruce that it would be a nice gesture to open the third and final Perth show with a genuine classic.

And that, is how that third show started with Highway To Hell.

I remember sitting there dumbfounded at what I was hearing and revelling in the moment, as did the rest of the crowd.

A fitting tribute to one of the greats.
