When the recent strawberry needle sabotage made headlines across the nation it not only sent shock waves around Aussie farming communities, but everyday strawberry lovers worldwide.
Celebrities, politicians and everyday people got behind the rally to #smashastrawb to support those financially struggling from the force of the wrecking.
But the battle isn't over just yet.
So, Helensvale's popular precinct NightQuarter has joined forces with the industry's peak bodies, the Strawberry Association and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to deliver a fundraising festival to those strawberry farmers who have been impacted.
This Saturday October 13, a very special Strawberry Festival will come alive inside the night market, featuring farm fresh pop up stalls from local strawberry farmers all to celebrate the sweetest things in life.
The entire marketplace will turn into a strawberry bonanza with strawberry ice cream, strawberry funnel cakes, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry soda, strawberry and Nutella toasties, strawberry milkshakes, and berry-licious cocktails at the bars all on offer.
NightQuarter Director, Michelle Christoe explains how it didn't take much convincing to get vendors and locals around the Gold Coast on board.
“NightQuarter delivers the perfect mix of community and culture to the Gold Coast and when news broke of the strawberry crisis, we immediately contacted the State Government to work together to make a real difference.”
“As soon as we mentioned the idea to our outlets, they were incredibly keen to bring this celebration of strawberries to life designing specialty themed delights to entice even the smallest of sweet tooth!”
The event is already shaping up to be wildly successful, with over 10,000 people clicking 'interested' to the Facebook event online.
The Strawberry Festival Fundraiser will be held at NightQuarter in Helensvale this Saturday, October 13 with gates opening at 4pm.
